Holiday Amaryllis Sale to Benefit the Presque Isle Township Museum Society

A Beautiful and Lasting Way to Support Presque Isle’s Historical Treasures

If you enjoy bringing your family and friends to the Presque Isle Lighthouses and 1905 Keeper’s House, we hope you will join our Holiday Amaryllis Bulb Sales Team. The Presque Isle Township Museum Society is in great need of additional funds to sustain our restoration, maintenance and collection efforts. This fundraiser is important to sustaining our future, so the more volunteers we have on board to help sell the bulbs, the better!

If you cannot help sell bulbs, please help support the Presque Isle Township Museum Society’s (PITMS) efforts by purchasing bulbs for your home, and consider giving them to your family, friends, teachers, and clients as well.

The Amaryllis’ blooms are so stunning and last 6-8 weeks. If cared for properly, they can be replanted again next year. Each bulb will come packaged in a gift box with a gift card indicating that proceeds from the purchase helps support the Presque Isle Lighthouses and 1905 Keeper’s House, along with lighthouse wrapping paper!

All bulbs are of top quality and guaranteed to grow. If for any reason the purchaser is not satisfied, they can contact our supplier and they will be offered their choice of a replacement, credit or full refund.

The following bulbs will be available for sale:

Kits come with planter, soil and bulb ready to grow indoors.
·             Red Lion Amaryllis Kit: $25
·             Appleblossom Amaryllis Kit: $25
·             Star of Holland Amaryllis Kit: $25
·             Paperwhite Premium Kit: $25

Premium Bulbs: come in burlap bag with colorful tag, ready for gift giving.
·              Double Variegated Amaryllis Bulb: $20
·             White Amaryllis Bulb: $20
·             Orange Amaryllis Bulb: $20
·             Red Lion Three-bulb Amaryllis Kit: $50

If you would like to help sell bulbs, contact PITMS Vice President Katie Wolf at (989)277-3543, or send her an email at kwolf2007@gmail.com. Selling the bulbs is easy. Each volunteer will be given a full-color order sheet with lovely photos of the bulbs in bloom. Customers pay by cash or check when placing the order.

You may contact any PITMS board member to purchase the Holiday Amaryllis bulbs as well. They also will be sold at the 1905 Keeper’s House during the weekends of October 7 & 8, noon to 3 pm (Lake Huron Discovery Tour), and October 14 & 15, noon – 3 pm (Autumn Lights).

Bulbs will be available for pick-up on Saturday, December 2 from 11 am to 2 pm during Christmas at the Lighthouse (Garrity Hall, New Presque Isle Lighthouse Park, 4500 East Grand Lake Rd., Presque Isle, MI).

And remember, a membership to the Presque Isle Township Museum Society also makes a lovely and lasting gift!

  • New Presque Isle Lighthouse (1870)
  • Third Order Fresnel Lens (built in the 1850s, first used during the 1871 shipping season)
  • Keeper’s House Museum (1905) in its 112th year!
  • Presque Isle Harbor Range Light (1870)

For lighthouse lovers, Presque Isle is a must-see stop in Northern Michigan.  Our 1870 Lighthouse is the tallest light on the Great Lakes that the public may climb.  Our 1840 Lighthouse is one of the oldest lights on the Great Lakes.  And our 1870 Harbor Range Light honors the small, dedicated group of women who were appointed keepers in a profession dominated by men.

For Lighthouse Passport holders, we now have three stamps.  The Old Lighthouse stamp is available at the Old Light.  The New Lighthouse and Range Light stamps are available at the New Light Gift Shop.

Volunteer "keepers" are needed for the 2017 season! If you live in the area, love the lighthouses, and are interested in working regular shifts (2.5 hours) greeting visitors, please contact us.

Presque Isle is French for peninsula, literally "almost an island."  Maine, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin all have towns named Presque Isle.  Michigan's Upper Peninsula has a Presque Isle Point near Marquette and a Presque Isle River in the Porcupine Mountains. However, our Presque Isle (note that we retain the original French pronunciation — "presk eel") is located in Northeastern Lower Michigan, on Lake Huron's beautiful Sunrise Shore, east of US-23 between Alpena and Rogers City.  We are just 80 minutes from Exit 310 on I-75.  Easy to find! Hard to leave!

Christmas at the 1905 Museum - And how these events happen

How Things Happen at the 1905 Museum

When you visit the 1905 House Museum at the New Presque Isle Lighthouse and notice something has been changed, for the Christmas event the other day for instance, do you wonder how it happens? Do you wonder who makes it happen? Well it is the volunteers of the Presque Isle Township Museum Society (PITMS) who make these displays happen.

Of course, Presque Isle Township, through The Parks and Recreation Department own the buildings and grounds, and have and are spending time, effort, and money to maintain them for all of us. But it is PITMS volunteers who do the work, collect donations of artifacts, purchase artifacts, and maintain many of the displays you see. Primarily the artifacts are in the 1905 House, but they are also in both the Lights as well. Next year we will, through an arrangement with the Township, be refurbishing four new rooms with artifacts at the New Presque Isle Lighthouse that were formally used by the Gift Shop.

By becoming a member of PITMS you support all of our efforts. We encourage you to join us, and to subscribe to our email newsletters on our website:  www.PresqueIsleLighthouses.org. If you wish to volunteer in any of efforts please email us at:  PILighthouses@Gmail.com.

Below are are few of the many displays recently decorated at the 1905 House by PITMS.

Please have a Happy Holiday!

A wonderful Christmas celebration at the New Presque Isle Lighthouse today! The Presque Isle Township Parks Department had Sleigh Rides, Crafts for Kids, and Santa Claus in person. The Presque Isle Museum Society (PITMS) had the entire 1905 House Museum decorated for the holidays. Speical Thanks to Netta's in Posen for donating the pine bows and other decorations. The house looked much like it did for the first Christmas.

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO VISITED
AND THOSE WHO PREPARED FOR THIS EVENT.
Both the Lighthouse and the Museum looked wonderful!

A wonderful Member Donation to PITMS!

Our Members are the KEY to our Success!

Recently PITMS received a generous and timely donation from Jackie and Eaman Power. They had collected artifacts from the area, including bottles they recovered from Thompsons Harbor and the Grand Lake area over the years. Most of these bottles and utensils date from the early 1900's. Since we are planning on restoring the kitchen area of the 1870 Lighthouse this gift is perfectly timed.

For more images of the complete donation, follow us on Twitter and FaceBook!
